Lee County partnered with Hole Montes to provide project and construction management support for the Three Oaks Widening project with Nicole Monahan, P.E. serving as an extension of Lee County’s project management staff.

Three Oaks Parkway was an existing two lane road between Alico and Corkscrew Roads. The road was originally constructed by a developer as half of an eventual four lane divided roadway. The design included adding two additional lanes of pavement, reconstructing two existing lanes to provide paved shoulders, rerouting a portion of the roadway where the right-of-way proved to be too narrow to accommodate the new design, adding a water management system, curb and gutter drainage, new sidewalk along new travel lanes, access management improvements, new and upgraded utilities, and new and upgraded traffic signals.

As the design process was underway, there were also several new developments under design and permitting along the corridor. Many of these developments were constructed between the end of the design process and the beginning of the construction of the roadway. This meant numerous changes to the plans to accommodate utilities, entrances and turn lanes that had not been contemplated with the design.
