Hole Montes was assigned the responsibility of providing all the engineering services associated with the rehabilitation of Runway 6-24 and parallel Taxiway A at RSW. The services started with conceptual development, including pavement evaluation and alternative assessment. Once the preferred alternate was selected, the design produced construction documents and obtained the necessary permits and approvals. Hole Montes assisted the Port Authority with the bidding phase. During construction, Hole Montes provided construction administration and resident project representatives for inspection services.

To accommodate the rehabilitation of the only runway at the airport, the taxiway was widened and converted into a temporary runway. The use of the temporary runway allowed a six month closure of the runway for rehabilitation. The engineering team was responsible to work with the Authority and FAA in establishing instrument approach procedures for the temporary runway and assisted in the coordination with the airport users (airline, freight and general aviation) and the FAA on the use of the airfield during each phase of the project.

The project was a success meeting the goals of the Authority and was recognized by FDOT as the 2007 Project of the Year and the Engineering Excellence award by the Florida Institution of Consulting Engineers.
